A year later, on September 13, 1966, Kroll raped and murdered Ursula Roling in Foersterbusch Park near Marl. Three months on, he struck again, raping five-year-old Ilona Harke before drowning her in a ditch near Wuppertal. When Ilona’s body was found, there were steaks cut from her buttocks and shoulders.

Towards the end of 1967, Kroll moved to the village of Grafenhausen, where he lured 10-year-old Gabrielle Puetman to a field with the promise of showing her some rabbits. Instead, he produced a pack of pornographic pictures causing the girl to run off. By the time the police arrived to arrest him, Kroll had fled.
